Coconut Sweet Rice from Konkan Origin: Maharashtra

Introduction

Narali Bhat is a traditional Maharashtrian sweet coconut rice made during Narali Purnima, offered to the sea and in temples across the Konkan coast.

  1. Cooking the Rice Base
    Ingredients:
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1.5 cups coconut milk
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • ½ cup jaggery

Instructions:

  • Cook rice until fluffy. Add jaggery, coconut, and coconut milk. Simmer gently.

    Ingredients:
  • Cardamom, cloves
  • Ghee, cashews

Instructions:

  • Temper ghee with spices and pour over rice. Garnish with fried cashews.
