Sweet Banana Roll Origin: Kerala

Introduction

A sweet snack made from steamed bananas stuffed with coconut, nuts, and sugar, then fried. A Malabar specialty.

Historical Relevance

Traditionally prepared in Mappila (Muslim) households of North Kerala, especially during Ramadan.

  1. Preparing the Rolls

    Ingredients:
  • 3 ripe nendran bananas

  • ½ cup grated coconut

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • Cashews, raisins, cardamom

  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  • Steam bananas, mash into dough.

  • Make filling with coconut, sugar, nuts, raisins, and cardamom.

  • Shape dough into rolls with filling inside.

  • Shallow fry till golden brown.
